KERNTYPE a kerning game

Your mission is simple: achieve pleasant and readable text by distributing the space between letters. Typographers call this activity kerning. Your solution will be compared to a typographer’s solution, and you will be given a score depending on how close you nailed it. Good luck!

In-Class Assignment:
Go to KERNTYPE and practice your kerning skills. Keep trying until you get at least an 80%, and then print out the results screen and put your name on it and give it to me.

For Next Saturday:
Go on a typographical scavenger hunt. I want you to track down and take pictures of at least one of each of the following categories of type:

Old-Style (Garamond)
Transitional (Baskerville)
Modern (Bodoni, Didot)
Egyptian (Slab-serif, Clarendon, Archer)
Sans-Serif (HelveticaFranklin GothicFutura)

Download the InDesign template for placing the photos here.
